What is an Archipelago Discord bot?
Archipelago creates MultiWorld games where an item needed by one player may be found in somebody else's world. With several games, players and channels involved, keeping track of the shared adventure can quickly become difficult.
AST monitors the Archipelago room and publishes the important events in Discord: received items, player progress, completed goals, hints and recaps. Everyone stays informed without keeping several pages open.
How do I connect an Archipelago room to Discord?
Add the public bot to your server, choose a channel and use /add-url with your room address. With the required permissions, AST can then create and manage the tracking thread.
The /recap and /recap-all commands show the current state of the game. /ast-room-portal opens the contextual web portal for the room, its players, events and available tools.
Official games and Custom Worlds
The tracker works with games supported by Archipelago and can use the information exposed by Custom Worlds/APWorlds loaded in the room. A single game can therefore combine retro classics, modern indie games and community-built worlds.
Use /status-games-list to review detected games and /apworlds-info for useful APWorld information.
Public or self-hosted mode
The public bot runs in Normal Mode, which is designed for room tracking on most servers. The open-source project also provides a self-hosted Archipelago Mode for YAML and APWorld management, backups and MultiWorld generation.
AST is free, open source and available for Linux and Windows. The project documentation covers commands, permissions and advanced installation.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to host the bot myself?
No. The public bot is enough to track a room in Normal Mode. Self-hosting is mainly intended for advanced generation and file-management features.
Does AST support Custom Worlds?
Yes. AST can track information provided by compatible Custom Worlds/APWorlds loaded in the room.
Is the bot free?
Yes. Both the public bot and the source code are available for free.
